In 2014, I was asked whether I would be interested in participating as a board member in a working groupon “Time-Friendly Cities<\/a>” of the ARL – Academy for Spatial Development in the Leibnitz Association<\/a> – in connection with the“ChronoCity – Pilot City Chronobiology<\/a>” project that I had initiated. The idea was to examine the topic of “time justice” in a municipal context together with various experts, also in the context of the internal clock. <\/p>

As a result, the anthology was produced in 3 years of work by the working group. <\/p>

This anthology contains articles by all the participants, each of whom looks at this topic from their own perspective.<\/p>

Goals of the working group – time justice<\/h2>

Based on the current discussions in science and current planning practice, the working group pursued its own claim. Its aim is to further develop the debate on the “contemporary city” theoretically, empirically and practically. The aim was to provide impetus for discussion and, where possible, to formulate recommendations for action for urban and regional planning. The working group was to approach this topic from a spatial science and spatial planning perspective. The focus was on people and their (inter alia chronobiological<\/strong><\/a>) needs in their social and spatial context were at the center of consideration. <\/p>

“Although there is a widespread awareness that time (policy) should be an explicit component of urban policy, its implementation in practice – despite the implicit importance of time-relevant policies – is not yet very well developed. The topic of “space-time policy” was already examined in its many dimensions a few years ago. <\/em><\/p>

Nevertheless, it has once again proved useful and necessary, especially against the background of the increasing debates on justice in the city (social justice, spatial justice, environmental justice, right to the city), to also focus on temporal justice in a working group. This anthology deals with this important topic in several specific contributions from four central perspectives: <\/em><\/p>
